I have a tentative relationship with the music of Björk. What is it about her singing voice that is so magical? Or, in her own words,

Why do I love it so much?
What kind of magic is this?
How come I can't help adore it?
		"In The Musicals" (Selma Songs)

Björk has at once the most beautiful and soulful voice I have ever heard, as well as the most annoyingly innocent aura about it. I don't mean to imply that her voice is less than fully mature; I mean that she sounds like a little girl discovering the joy of singing for the very first time - always.

I'm often torn trying to decide whether I want to continue listening to an album I've put in the CD player. I suppose what I'm getting at is that her music is absolutely engaging. I can't be satisfied passively listening to a Björk album. If I don't give it all of my attention it loses its luster, and that's not fair.

If you've never heard of the movie "Dancer in the Dark" you must go see it right now. The real gem of this movie from Lars Von Trier is the soundtrack (Selma Songs) performed by Björk. I have no words to describe the excellence of this work. Go get the soundtrack right now. Post-haste. Listen as many times as necessary. That is what all music tries to be. Absolute magic.
